The Butler Dance Team, the Sugar Bears, were crowned small hip hop Sectional Champions at the KHSAA Sectional. They scored 79.18 overall and will advance to the state championships in Lexington later this year. This is the first Sectional Championship for the Butler Dance Team. The Bears season came to a close in the regional semifinal at St. Xavier High School. The 4th ranked Butler football team fell to the 2nd ranked Tigers 20-35 ending their season. The team lost 4 games, all to teams ranked in the top 20 in the state. Butler was led by junior quarterback Chaz Burks who threw for 2,144 yards and 31 TDs on the season. Seniors Eric Jackson and Demontae Crumes rounded out the offensive power for the Bears: Jackson had 1,142 rushing yards and 14 TDs and Crumes caught 42 passes for 877 yards and 14 TDs. On defense, Butler was paced by Senior Sam Porter's 61 total tackles and Junior Hosea Knfeley's 11 TFLs. Butler returns many players for 2019 and look forward to building on back to back solid seasons. Both the Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams qualified for the State Tournament for the 5th straight year by finishing 5th and 3rd in the Regional respectively. It was the fastest region in the state this year. Collin Sheffield finished 5th overall as an individual, good for 15th in the state. Emma Endress finished 5th as well, qualifying 33rd in the state overall. The State Championship Meet will be held this Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park at 1pm. Hat’e Dieven’s hat trick lifted the Butler High School boys soccer team to a 3-1 victory at Elizabethtown on Tuesday in the Semistate Three game. Dieven scored in the 14th, 48th and 63rd minutes as the Bears (18-3-1) – ranked No. 12 in the state – rallied from an early 1-0 deficit. Dieven, a junior forward, leads Butler with 47 goals this season. Irakoze Chartier had two assists and Yusuf Muhumed had one for Butler, and goalkeeper Tyler Glass added four saves. Butler will face No. 21 Hopkinsville (18-6-2) in Saturday’s state tournament quarterfinals in Lexington. The Bears Boys Soccer team closed out another 6th Region Title with a 3-0 win over Fairdale in the final at DeSales on Saturday. Butler was led by a shutout by goalkeeper Tyler Glass and goals from Ha'te Dieven, Abas Hassan and Aung Win. The Bears record is now 17-3-1 and they will travel to Elizabethtown for the first round of the state tournament facing off with Elizabethtown on Tuesday at 7pm. Making the 6th Regional all-Tournament Team were Hat’e Dievin, Irakoze Chartier, Yusuf Muhumed and Abdi Osman. The Butler softball team showed it's not how you start, it's how you finish. The young Bears, with only one senior on their 18-player roster, began the season outside the top 15 in the preseason coaches' poll and didn't have a player named to the 50-player Preseason All-State Watch List. The Bears figured their time would come next year, but their time arrived early. After a marathon four-game Friday at Jack C. Fisher Park, the Bearettes went 1-1 on Saturday at to finish third in the 24th annual Owensboro Health/KHSAA Softball State Tournament. Freshman Sadie Werner pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven to lead the Butler High School softball team to a 6-0 victory over Jeffersontown on Tuesday in a Sixth Region Tournament semifinal at the University of Louisville’s Ulmer Stadium. Werner walked just two and also hit a batter in helping Butler (25-9) – ranked No. 15 in the state – advance to Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. regional final against the Mercy-Holy Cross winner. Kyndal Tinnell and Tori Hartlage both went 3 for 4 to lead Butler’s 15-hit attack. Already up 2-0, the Bearettes strung together five hits and scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead. Alyssa Brock had a double during the rally. Butler is gunning for its first regional title since 2007 and has finished as the runner-up six times since then, including last year when the Bearettes lost 4-0 to Mercy in the final. Story from Courier-Journal. Butler defeated DeSales in the 22nd District Championship 7-2 for their first title in 4 years. The Bears fired up the offense in the first inning, when sophomore catcher Brad Jones singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. Junior Thomas Hodgkins got the win on the mound going five and a third innings, allowing one run on six hits, striking out seven and walking none. Senior Matt Craven closed the door in the 7th for the victory. The Bears tallied eight hits on the day. Cameron McKune and Reece Kapple collected multiple hits. Most importantly, Butler was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error in the field. They advance to the 6th Region tournament and will host on Moday at 11am, opponent yet to be determined. Butler Softball won their 15th straight 22nd District title on Tuesday over Iroquois 15-0. The Bears won their first round game 15-0 over Western as well. Butler have won 11 of their last 14 and enter the Regional Tournament with a record of 23-9 and will host a first round game on Monday 11am at Shively Park, opponent is yet to be determined. This last week of the regular season saw the Varsity Bears continue their trend of up and down play. They started the week with a quality win over a ranked Fern Creek club giving them only their fourth loss of the season. The next night however the Bears stumbled again losing a lop-sided affair at South Oldham. To close out the week and regular season the Bears played host to Manual. In the Saturday afternoon contest the Bears reeled off sixteen hits and nine runs for a 9-3 win. With that win the Bears posted a 15-13 record heading into the post-season. Milan Perpich Field will play host for the Semi-Finals and Finals of the 22nd District on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday's action starts at 5:00 p.m. with Doss taking on DeSales and Butler plays at 7:30 against the winner of Iroquois and Western (they play Monday). Action will conclude with the District Championship on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. |
