The girls 4x800m relay team was ranked #1 in Kentucky entering the State Championships of Friday at the University of Kentucky. They proved that ranking correct by dominating the competition and winning the state title by more than 10 seconds. The team was comprised of Cierra Wright (Sophomore), Esperance Nibitanga (Senior), Madison Adkins (Sophomore) and Emma Endress (8th Grader). This is the first state championship for Butler Girls Track since 2008, an 11 year drought. Congratulations to Coach Barnes and the team. Butler Track and Field travelled to Lexington to compete in the Kentucky State Championship Meet on Saturday and battled the weather to a solid showing. Anthony Handley placed 7th in the Triple Jump. The Girls 4x200m relay team of Esperance Nibitanga, Cyntrie Hope, Cierra Wright and Keana Merriwhether finished 8th overall. The Girls 4x400m Relay team of Hope, Kourtnee Withers, Shelby Helton-Henley and Keshonna Towns finished 8th in the state. This completes a solid season for the Track and Field Bears, they return a lot of talent for next year. Butler boys and girls track and field completed the season with the annual Regional meet at Male this year. The teams both finished 4th in their respective meets. There were many individual standouts and some qualified for the State Track and Field Championship next week at UK. Senior Frank Bentley won the regional championship in high jump and will compete in state next week. Anthony Handley and Marius Hinneh both qualified in the triple jump. Cierra Wright quailfied in the 400m. Many relays will also be travelling to Lexington, girls and boys 4x100m and 4x200m relays. The Butler Track and Field team took hom the girls team title and placed first in many different events. Relays were once agin a strong point for the Bears, they won the girls 4x100m, 4x400m and 4x800m. Madison Adkins won the 800m and 1600m runs. Annabelle Walker placed first in the 2 mile run. Cierra Wright won the girls 400m. Keshonna Towns was the stand out in field, winning the girls triple jump. The Bears now turn their attention to the regional meet which will take place this weekend. The Boys and Girls Track team competed on Wednesday at the Male meet. Boys finished 2nd as a team and girls placed 3rd. Individual standouts were Frank Bentley 2nd in the High Jump and Anthony Handley 2nd in the Triple Jump. Cyntrie Hope also placed 2nd in the 100m, Madison Adkins 2nd in the mile and Destiny Williams 3rd in the High Jump. Once again, the Bears relays were on of the better groups at the meet, the boys 4x200m (Livers, Hinneh, Handley and London) relay finished 2nd. The Boys 4x100m (Bentley, Handley, Hinneh and Livers) relay placed 2nd as well.
