The Bears season came to a close in the regional semifinal at St. Xavier High School. The 4th ranked Butler football team fell to the 2nd ranked Tigers 20-35 ending their season. The team lost 4 games, all to teams ranked in the top 20 in the state. Butler was led by junior quarterback Chaz Burks who threw for 2,144 yards and 31 TDs on the season. Seniors Eric Jackson and Demontae Crumes rounded out the offensive power for the Bears: Jackson had 1,142 rushing yards and 14 TDs and Crumes caught 42 passes for 877 yards and 14 TDs. On defense, Butler was paced by Senior Sam Porter's 61 total tackles and Junior Hosea Knfeley's 11 TFLs. Butler returns many players for 2019 and look forward to building on back to back solid seasons. The Bears made history this year for our football program. Ending 8-5 for the season, 4-4 for the Region, and 2-4 for the District. Starting the Regional Tournament, the Bears played Ryle on the road. Winning their first game 20-14. Their second game was against Male, also on the road, winning 14-6. This was the first time in 26 years, or 19 games that Butler has defeated Male. But then had their season ended in the regional championship aginst St. X (18-45). The Bears played their last home game against Eastern Friday night, and won 20-10. Tae Tae Cumes had 3 receptions and 142 rec yards and 2 touchdowns. Frank Caldwell had 2 receptions 80 rec yards and 1 touchdown. Kyron Anderson had 10 tackles and 1 sack. Greg Jackson had 6 tackles and 1 interception. Keiaris Graves had 6 tackles and 2.5 tk/loss. Player of the game was QB Chaz Burks, he had 272 passing yards and 70.6% Cmp Pct. The Bears will play again Friday Oct 20th, at St. X game time is 7:30. Friday night October 5th the Butler Bears went head to head with rival PRP. The Bears fought hard but lost . Chaz Burks had 34 passing yards, and 1 interception. Jalan Ward had 3 carries and 60 rushing yards. Kyron Anderson had 9 tackels and 1.5 tackles/loss. Hosea Knifely had 3.5 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Kenneth Williams had 1 tackle and 1 sack. Player of the Game was Eric Jackson with 28 carries 99 rushing yards 3.5 yards/carry and 2 touchdowns. Butler will be back in action Friday the 13th , at Butlers home field for senior night. Game time is @7 vs the Eastern Eagles. |
