Butler defeated DeSales in the 22nd District Championship 7-2 for their first title in 4 years. The Bears fired up the offense in the first inning, when sophomore catcher Brad Jones singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. Junior Thomas Hodgkins got the win on the mound going five and a third innings, allowing one run on six hits, striking out seven and walking none. Senior Matt Craven closed the door in the 7th for the victory. The Bears tallied eight hits on the day. Cameron McKune and Reece Kapple collected multiple hits. Most importantly, Butler was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error in the field. They advance to the 6th Region tournament and will host on Moday at 11am, opponent yet to be determined. This last week of the regular season saw the Varsity Bears continue their trend of up and down play. They started the week with a quality win over a ranked Fern Creek club giving them only their fourth loss of the season. The next night however the Bears stumbled again losing a lop-sided affair at South Oldham. To close out the week and regular season the Bears played host to Manual. In the Saturday afternoon contest the Bears reeled off sixteen hits and nine runs for a 9-3 win. With that win the Bears posted a 15-13 record heading into the post-season. Milan Perpich Field will play host for the Semi-Finals and Finals of the 22nd District on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday's action starts at 5:00 p.m. with Doss taking on DeSales and Butler plays at 7:30 against the winner of Iroquois and Western (they play Monday). Action will conclude with the District Championship on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. After dropping back-to-back games against Valley and Holy Cross and three in a row overall, they bounced back with a win against Boyd Co. in the Fayette County Invitational. The Bears closed out the weekend by splitting their pair on Saturday losing to Madison Central and winning the late game against host Henry Clay. Moving into the last week of the regular season the Varsity Bears are sitting at 13-12 overall. They look to gain some momentum with a big slate this week hosting Fern Creek, rival PRP, and Manual while traveling to South Oldham. The Varsity Bears continued their up-and-down streak of inconsistency going 2-2 this week. They were able to assure the #1 seed in this month's District Tournament and close out a nice offensive effort against J-Town but fell to rivals Male and Bullitt East. The Varsity Bears will be back in action Tuesday as they travel to Valley before returning home on Wednesday against Holy Cross. Wednesday's game will be the only home game of the week and will also serve as our Senior Night. This weekend the Bears will travel to Henry Clay for the Fayette County Invitational where they will take on Boyd Co., Madison Central, and host Henry Clay. Our Varsity is 11-9 on the season and look to gain some momentum this week before the post-season. After shuffling some games around due to mandated District games needing to be played, the Varsity were able to get it's full load of four games in this week. The Varsity Bears started out on fire but cooled off to close out the week. To close out the week the Varsity Bears lost the last two games in the L.I.T. to Breckinridge Co. and Lafayette. The Varsity will look to bounce back this week with another tough stretch.
