Both the Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams qualified for the State Tournament for the 5th straight year by finishing 5th and 3rd in the Regional respectively. It was the fastest region in the state this year. Collin Sheffield finished 5th overall as an individual, good for 15th in the state. Emma Endress finished 5th as well, qualifying 33rd in the state overall. The State Championship Meet will be held this Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park at 1pm. Hat’e Dieven’s hat trick lifted the Butler High School boys soccer team to a 3-1 victory at Elizabethtown on Tuesday in the Semistate Three game. Dieven scored in the 14th, 48th and 63rd minutes as the Bears (18-3-1) – ranked No. 12 in the state – rallied from an early 1-0 deficit. Dieven, a junior forward, leads Butler with 47 goals this season. Irakoze Chartier had two assists and Yusuf Muhumed had one for Butler, and goalkeeper Tyler Glass added four saves. Butler will face No. 21 Hopkinsville (18-6-2) in Saturday’s state tournament quarterfinals in Lexington. The Bears Boys Soccer team closed out another 6th Region Title with a 3-0 win over Fairdale in the final at DeSales on Saturday. Butler was led by a shutout by goalkeeper Tyler Glass and goals from Ha'te Dieven, Abas Hassan and Aung Win. The Bears record is now 17-3-1 and they will travel to Elizabethtown for the first round of the state tournament facing off with Elizabethtown on Tuesday at 7pm.
